His research Interests are in the broad areas of Information Retrieval, Extraction and Access. More specifically: social media analysis, cross language information access, summarization and semantic search. He also works in the areas of Cloud Computing and Reuse in Software Engineering.
He is also the CEO of IIIT Hyderabad Foundation, which runs one of the largest technology incubators in India. The Foundation manages IIIT-H’s IP and technology transfers.
He has also co-founded Veooz Labs Pvt. Ltd., a social signal based content discovery platform with social media search and analysis capabilities
He was visiting professor at UPV, Valencia, Spain (Summer 2007), UBO, Bretagne, France (Summer 2009) and Language Technologies Institute, CMU, Pittsburgh, USA (Summer 2010)
He obtained his Ph.D. from the Department of Computer and Information Sciences, University of Hyderabad in 1996. Prior to joining IIIT Hyderabad in 2002, he was the president of MediaCognition India Pvt. Ltd and Chief Architect at MediaCognition Inc. (Cupertino, CA). Earlier he was the director of Engineering and research at InfoDream Corporation, Santa Clara, CA. He also worked for Citicorp and Muze Inc. in New York as senior consultant.

Dr. Gupta obtained his PhD under Prof. Jiawei Han at Univ of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC). He completed his MTech under Prof. Soumen Chakrabarti at IIT Bombay.

Niyati is a Computer Scientist at the Big Data Experience Lab, Adobe Research, Bangalore, India. Her research interests include affective computing, computational linguistics, natural language processing, and machine learning.
Psycholinguistics, Computational Linguistics, and Machine learning put together can be efficiently leveraged to understand online users, their content preferences, and specifically their reactions including moods, opinions, and emotions. Niyati focuses on this research Affective Computing for Language and Text. Her work has applications towards Personalization at Scale for Content Authoring and towards creating personalized experiences.
She completed her Ph.D. from University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) in September 2012. Her dissertation was on Joint Inference for Extracting Soft Biometric Text Descriptors from Patient Triage Images. She completed her M.S. in computer science from UMBC in May 2010 and B.E. from University of Pune (India) in 2008. Her work experience includes research internships at National Library of Medicine, National Intitutes of Health, Bethesda, MD.
Professor on Sabbatical at IIIT-H
I am PK https://www.iiit.ac.in/people/faculty/pk.guru/ now on sabbatical at IIITH; I started on 1st of May 2018. Will be around for 14 months. My primary areas of research are Privacy & Security in Online Social Media, Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Social Computing. I used to be at IIITH in 2003 / 2004, before I went to get my Ph.D. from the School of Computer Science at CMU.
